  1. I always find it rather sketchy when companies hire social media gurus to be the “face” of the organization. Facebook fan pages are one thing, but the point of having a Facebook, Twitter, or MySpace page is to connect with people on a one-on-one basis. When professionals and advertisers start pretending to be someone else, it’s very apparent and off putting. That’s a main reason why MySpace isn’t so popular anymore – it allowed for all those comedian, music, company and fake famous people profiles that no one cared about. Facebook dealt with it by having strict profile creation restrictions and developed “fan” pages for businesses and organizations. Twitter I believe still allows for a professionals because it’s looked at as more of a short news update than as a personal profile page. But even still, I always read what posts are send before I start following someone. If I don’t care about the company, or if the person doesn’t interact with others in a certain way, I don’t follow. I suppose that’s the nature of the internet – I’m always weary of spammers.

I don’t like the idea of “ghost-tweeting” but you also wouldn’t want the President spending his time lurking on Facebook & Twitter!

    • No, obviously I wouldn’t want our President wasting time on Twitter or Facebook, but I would expect to get my news from reporters, journalists, or bloggers – not some social media hired help to boost popularity in whatever organization they’re secretly trying to promote.
