Will The iPad Kill Off Comic Books?
Feb 9th, 2010 | By James Lewin | Category: Apple iPadDaisy Whitney’s latest New Media Minute video podcast takes a look at comic books – a $1 billion business that hasn’t really been hit by digital media yet.
Yet the industry is already looking ahead to see how it can adapt to the iPad and other tablet ereaders.
Is it time to add comic books to the Print Media Deathwatch?
Comics have been suffering ever since the collector’s bubble burst decades ago. They use to be available in corner stores. Now they can only be found in specialty shops.
If anything, it’s scanlations that have affected comics. They’re also affected by the fact that younger generations aren’t into them as much as the older generations were. Although there’s enough independents producing comics so that it’s hardly going to disappear anytime soon.

Hi Daisy!
I never thought of this before, and it may be true for the iPhone and iPod Touch as well but I think it is very true that the comic industry should tap into this opportunity, not many kids that I know buy comic books, maybe if it were available on ebooks/iPad… hhhmm good point.
Not kill… revolutionize… there will always be paper edition comic books… but in addition to that, yes, comic book stores may suddenly become a retailer of choice for reading tablets like the iPad, because first adopters are going to be magazine and comic book lovers.
