iTunes 9.0.1 Fixes Podcast Sync Problems

Apple has released an update to iTunes that fixes a sync problem with podcast playlists.
Here’s a summary of the changes:
iTunes 9.0.1 provides a number of important bug fixes, including:
- Resolves issues browsing the iTunes Store.
- Addresses a performance issue where iTunes may become unresponsive.
- Fixes a problem where iTunes may unexpectedly quit.
- Fixes a problem syncing Podcasts in playlists to iPod or iPhone.
- Fixes a problem sorting albums with multiple discs.
- Addresses an issue with the Zoom button not switching to Mini Player.
- Improves application syncing for iPod touch and iPhone.
- Genius is now automatically updated to show Genius Mixes.
9.0.1 does NOT fix the syncing problem when it comes to podcasts. It WILL drop the selected podcast onto your nano, but it will not display a playlist with selected podcasts. Why? Why is that 'upgrades' rarely improve the experience? Here's an idea. Next time an upgrade is planned, make sure the person designing the upgrade actually uses the device or program that will be effected. It's ridiculous to consider how simple it used to be to sync podcasts or anything else before Apple decided to 'upgrade.' Maybe there's a reason apple users comprise such a small percentage of the personal computer market. Nice job, apple. Well done.

Which means pretty soon there will be iTunes 9.0.2 or 9.1 that breaks the sync again. Hopefully the next version of iTunes comes sooner rather than later.
In downloading the latest version of i-tunes, my podcast is not renewing the subscription list. What do I do???????????
iTunes 9.0.1 does NOT fix the problem of having a playlist of Podcasts. I spent three hours on it this morning. I just hate it when a new verson of iTunes appears — something doesn't work or something disapprears from my iPod.
So glad it's not only me – my podcasts vanish from my iPod once they've been heard – can only access them through iTunes. Am about to go on long trip abroad without Radio 4 and was counting on those podcasts – am distraught. Why do they alienate customers so? Is it deliberate?
9.0.1 sucks!!!!!!!!
Hi,
I have been having the same problems, but I have found a workaround for getting already downloaded podcasts onto a Ipod.
It is done by altering the ID3 tags of the MP3 file.
These are the steps
1)Get an MP3 tag editor program like mp3tag v2.44(It’s free)
2)Using Mp3tag as an example drag and drop your podcasting mp3 files into the program (Back your files up first) You can find out where they are stored by Right Clicking on the file in iTunes and selecting “Get Info”
3) Select about 20 at a time. I found step 5 didn’t work if more were selected, but I not sure why.
4) Change the Genre from podcast to something else ( I Think this step can be skipped but this is what I did to get it to work)
5)This is the bit I think allows you to upload the file to your ipod…. From the menu bar select View –>Extended Tags.
6) Select the rows that have the string ITUNESPODCAST and press the Red Cross just to the right. This will delete the podcasting info.
7)Save the file and it will now save the edited tags.
8)Upload to ipod as normal MP3s!!!
This method can probably by refined but it worked for me đ

I fixed it by changing the media type (not genre or category) from "Podcast" to "audiobook"
Jon, great advice. Yes, I REALLY want some of my old podcasts to stay on my ipod aftre hearing them for an upcoming trip. Changing from podcast to audiobook does the trick.
