The “Years to reach 50 million” is a little misleading. Planetary population has changed over the years so there are just more people on the planet now than in the past. This can be seen reflected in TV statistics; while a show may get a lower share today than a show of the past it will often get just as many viewers. Also, Facebook didn’t require the purchase of extra equipment beyond what people already owned where as TV and radios were major purchases.

350M user names perhaps, not people. Many, if not most, have multiple accounts.
