Kutiman Remixes YouTube, Blows Minds

Has anything blown your mind lately?
If not, it’s time you check out Kutiman’s Thru You – an Internet album of music videos completely made out of remixed YouTube footage.
Kutiman takes YouTube footage of people giving gear demos and doing their music thing, and then turns them completely inside out, recontextualizing them and turning them into compelling tracks.
Check out I’m New above, and then check out the source videos below to get a better idea of the scope of Kutiman’s slice and dice vision.
Let me know what you think of Kutiman’s video remixing in the comments!

[…] Kutiman – Thru you Dit kwam ik tegen op Podcasting News: […]
I’ve been playing, writing, producing and in just about every other way having a life with music at its core for 40 years… I think this is one of the greatest musical achievements I’ve ever seen. The original clips represent innocent and utterly unpretentious music… then to combine those into a collaboration greater than ANYTHING that would have happened without the remix… then the fact that it’s video clips that work together to tell a story… it is completely and totally mind-blowing. that’s what it is.
Blows minds is absolutely correct. Growing up, I was a HUGE fan of DJ Shadow, EBN, Evolution Control Committee, FSOL, etc… You name it. What Kutiman has done here is simply the next generation of combining technology and music savvy. This whole foray into genius could be summed up by the one clip from ‘Someday’ where the female vocalist is beautifully singing in harmony with dozens of other pieces of music, worthy of my expectation of seeing her on a stage in front of a crowd of hundreds and when we finally see her… She is sitting with her child in her lap at her computer…
Absolute. Harmonized. Humanity.

Next generation? Mindblowing? What? MikeStan mentions EBN, and yet fails to recognize the stuff they produced 15 years earlier was more sophisticated?! They actually integrated the video images in a creative manner. “Kutiman” is doing some nice sample-based music, but that’s all it is, and a far cry from the work of his predecessors, who did much more with far slower computers, clunkier software, and limited source material (and, no, I have nothing to do with EBN).
