NBC To Debut Tina Fey’s 30 Rock Online
Oct 17th, 2008 | By James Lewin | Category: Internet TV, Streaming Video, VideoIt looks like NBC is hoping to capitalize on the fact that Tina Fey is hotter online than off by debuting her show 30 Rock online.Â
According to MediaPost, NBC plans to debut the full season premiere online seven days before its on-air takeoff.
The debut will be streamed on NBC.com starting Oct. 23, as well as on Hulu.com, before it launches on the network on Oct. 30 (Thursday) at 9:30 p.m.
NBC said Monday that Salma Hayek will become a recurring guest star on the show as a love interest of Alec Baldwin’s character Jack Donaghy.
Earlier in the week, we reported that “Tina Fey’s impression of Sarah Palin has been hugely popular, big enough to influence the future of television.“
It didn’t take long, did it?
Remarkable how fast things change. I was going to note the common sentiment that this is due to the ‘Net (which is certainly mostly true) but I hesitate because television has always been responsive to trends. Just not so fast as now, I guess. Some might say not *nearly* as fast as today…
Someone working in television for more than a decade please provide some insight: Ignoring, for the moment, the trend toward putting shows online, is television programming changing faster today than it did when you began working in the industry? This might be more difficult to answer with clarity because of the recent strike (which clearly caused changes in programming). Strikes tend to throw *everything* off.
