Developer Proposes Fix For PodPress/WordPress Incompatibilities

WordPress creator Matt Mullenweg let us know about a new development in the WordPress 2.6/PodPress meltdown.
“Two WordPress developers have volunteered fixes for both the 8.8 and 8.9 branches of PodPress,” says Mullenweg. “It’s only a few lines of code to cure the problem.”
The unofficial fixes are available at developer Andrew Ozz’s blog, and they look like they would be straightforward to apply.
It’s great to see the WordPress community working to quickly address this problem, but the situation still raises concerns. At this point, podcasters using WordPress don’t have a supported platform and have to do some hacking to keep their sites working.
For developers like Mullenweg and tech-savvy first adopters, this isn’t much of a problem. For people that just want to make a podcast, though, it’s a big deal.
And this would be why I’m sticking with the 2.5.1 installation I have … at least for now.

Incidentally, for people that “just want to podcast” we found that iWeb (for Mac users) was a great way to focus on getting our content out there while we learned the ins and outs of programs like WordPress and RSS. We used it for 2 years before it became too cumbersome to use it for our show. Now we use WordPress with Podpress as our site platform, but since we’re contracted with another company for revenue sharing and hosting we don’t have to rely on it. Still, it’s nice to know that we pretty much know how to use it now.
I heard that RawVoice is coming out with a WordPress Podcast plugin. Based on what those guys have done in the space I cannot wait.
