TiVo Wants Onto Your Computer
Nov 28th, 2007 | By James Lewin | Category: Internet TV, VideoNero and TiVo today announced that they have entered into an agreement to integrate TiVo’s television UI with Nero’s next generation of PC software. Under the agreement, Nero will develop a software solution that will bring TiVo features to the personal computer.
“This agreement provides TiVo with an opportunity to deliver its interface and differentiated feature set globally via the PC, enabling TiVo to use all avenues of mass distribution — from consumer electronics, to cable and satellite boxes and soon, the PC,” said Tom Rogers, President and CEO, TiVo.
This is likely to make digitizing television shows more trivial than ever.
By “PC software” do they mean personal computers running any and all operating systems, or do they mean Windows-based personal computers?
It appears that TiVo once again is going to ignore the non-Windows communities. And that’s why I still don’t own a TiVo.
garricke is ill-informed
TiVo hasn’t ignored us Mac users. TiVo desktop is available for Macintosh and Roxio’s Toast 8 has TiVo transfer which allows tyou to transfer your Tivo programs to your Mac and then burn them to DVD.

This is likely to be something else that doesn’t work on Windows. Remember the Windows 98 version of WebTV? They took it out of XP because it was buggy and nobody used it. It was a pain to get to work and even then you had to have your computer configured just right; one change in hardware might break it.
Forget turning a PC into a DVD player; instead they should be concentrating on adding PC features to DVD players. How about a PC packed into a keyboard that plugs into an LCD or Plasma TV? It wouldn’t work on CRT sets because the resolution was too low, but with HighDef there’s no reason it won’t work.
Looks to me like a branded app that will feature TiVo interface; Tivo name a lot more recognizable than Nero.
Yeah – probably nothing there for Macheads. They don’t realize how much it costs them to neglect Mac users. Most of the bloggers I know use Macs, which means they aren’t as likely to blog about PC-only stuff.
