Free Audio Editor Available for PC & Mac

NCH Swift Sound‘s free WavePad audio editing software is now available for Mac OSX as well as for Windows. It’s a wav and mp3 editor, but also supports vox, gsm, real audio, au, aif, flac, ogg and other formats.
WavePad is designed to let you make and edit music, voice and other audio recordings. When editing audio files you can cut, copy and paste parts of recordings and, if required, add effects like echo, amplification and noise reduction.
For a free editor, it offers a lot of interesting features, including normalization, effects, rate conversion, support for a lot of formats and even some more esoteric functions like speech synthesis.

WavePad is excellent! I had a PC and would use it often for many different things. The great thing was as soon as the trial was over, I could completely uninstall it and download it again for free. Then I got a Mac. WavePad is not nearly as cool, unfortunately for my Mac. For example, it would not show me the extremely helpful green “waves” and lines that followed the volume of the music. Plus, when the trial was over and I uninstalled it, I could not download it again for free. I like WavePad enough that I would consider buying it, but I’m worried that if I buy it for a Mac, that I’ll get the less cool version, so Mac-ers beware!
Do not get WavePad for Mac. It is a waste of your time–really big waste. It looked great, and was easy to use intuitively. There was just one little (GIANT) problem. It erases all your work when you save the file. It looks like it is saving the file just fine. But when you open the saved file–IT IS EMPTY!
I did a lot of searching around after this happened to me and found that it is a common problem with WavePad.
Now I’m shopping for a new audio editor…
don’t waste your time on this one.
