Is The Cell Phone Industry iPwned?
Jul 5th, 2007 | By James Lewin | Category: Digital Music, iPhone, iPods & Portable Media PlayersIt’s beginning to look like the cell phone industry may be iPwned by Apple’s iPhone:
- iPhone reviews have been nearly universally glowing.
- Other cell phone introductions, which might have generated some buzz a short time ago, are suffering in comparison to Apple’s new mobile phone.
- Unofficial reports put iPhone sales at over one million in less than a week, which would make it one of the hottest technology introductions in history.
- iPhones are sold out at most outlets.
- European mobile phone carriers are fighting over the rights to sell the iPhone.
- Playboy has declared the iPhone one of the hottest media platforms.
Almost as important as the iPhone itself is the fact that music buyers are rapidly switching to digital music, an area that Apple already dominates. Most other music phones are too complicated for most people to figure out, which could give Apple a huge advantage over other cell-phone manufacturers.
