Jeffrye TveraasFrom the Good Things Happening To Nice People We Know Department:

Austin (Texas) musician and songwriter Jeffrye Tveraas has been producing a podcast for the last year. His Austin Connection podcast features some of the best songwriters in the Austin area performing their tunes and offers insight into their careers and music.

“My own musical production Mac is 5 years old and was rather long in the tooth compared to today’s computers,” Tveraas said. “My status as a full-time working musician here in Austin (which everyone knows means underemployed) makes it unlikely that I’d be able to afford a new Mac anytime soon.”

Enter Austin radio station KGSR. The station, which features a mix of rock, Texas, and “Americana” (according to my friend SAK), conducted a contest for local musicians. The prize? A snazzy new a new MacBook laptop, “a spin for one of my songs” on the radio and an MP3 plus video hosted on their website.

The contest was aimed at musicians and artists and “they simply asked us to write in and tell them why we should be one of the winners,” Tveraas said. “I mentioned three things: the podcast series and my desire to be able to make recordings ‘on-location'”, and the elderly state of his studio computer.

“I guess they liked what I said,” Tveraas laughs, speaking of his recent win.

Tveraas will be using his prize to continue podcast recordings at his Cheshire Moon Studios, for editing on-location recordings, and for recording his own music, like recent CD offering Lake Effect.

This could not have happened to a nicer guy. Jeffrey is one of Austin’s hidden treasures; one very fine crafter of song, a superlative recording engineer, has remarkable skill as a graphic artist (and designer of CD packages), and is a first call studio guitar-slinger. Behind all of this accomplishment is a genuinely down to earth guy who more often than not will deflect the credit for his role in a success to the other players on the scene. Kudos on KGSR for recognizing his contribution to Austin Songwriters with his effort to bring Austin Connection Podcast Series. Congrats JGT!

… not to mention the fact that, when we were introduced (by our mutual friend SAK) last spring during SxSW, Jeff gave DH and me a tour of his studio, clued us in to some of the best barbecque in town (Art’s Rib House? I think), and was on a first-name basis with the musicians playing there. Plus he was very hospitable.

It’s nice to see talented people getting some airplay!

This should be Austin’s wake-up call to Jeffrey Tveraas’ talent! His podcasts create a truly unique, smooth space to hear wonderful artists. Not just to hear the artists music, but really get to know the person who is creating the music which we love. Jeffrey’s own guitar skill is exceptional…..perhaps he should find someone to sit in as host so we can have a podcast of HIM! Good pick KGSR!

I REALLY BELIEVE THAT JEFFREY TVERAAS, IS ONE OF THE BEST MUSICIANS, SONGWRITERS, I’VE EVER BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO WORK WITH.HE IS WELL DESERVING OF WINNING THIS CONTEST. HE CAME ALL THE WAY TO ST.THOMAS VIRGIN ISLANDS TO WORK WITH ME ON MY ALBUM “CHANGES” & DID A WONDERFUL JOB ON ARRANGING & PLAYING ON ALL 13 SONGS, OF MY ORIGINAL MUSIC, I THOUGHT WOULD ALWAYS BE IN MY NOTEBOOK, BUT , LIKE HE TOLD ME AFTER HE HEARD MY SONGS, “IF YOU COULD ONLY HEAR, WHAT I HEAR THESE SONGS CAN SOUND LIKE” & AFTER HE WAS FINISHED WORKING ON MY SONGS, THEY SOUNDED AMAZING, THANK-YOU JEFF & CONTINUED SUCESS. YOUR BIGGEST FAN, CARRIE WILLIAMS

  5. I really appreciate reading all these nice words from friends–it has been my pleasure to do Jeffrye’s podcast website for the past year, and I hope to continue it long into the future. I am so happy to have my favorite radio station honor my favorite local musician in a way that will directly contribute to improvements in his already-wonderful podcasts. You don’t make a lot of money on projects like this, so knowing they are appreciated really means a great deal. Thank you all.
