Just In Time For The Holidays: Handel’s Messiah On Electric Guitar
Dec 8th, 2006 | By James Lewin | Category: Podcast QuickiesThe holidays are coming, and you’ve probably been wondering – “What would Handel’s Messiah sound if it was played by hundreds of electric guitars?”
Fortunately, Dan Sindel’s Symphonic Guitars podcast has the answer.
“This is my 2006 demo release,” notes Sindel, “which is comprised of almost 500 individual guitar tracks (Electric, Acoustic, Nylon and 12 String).”
Sindel describes his version as “an adventurous interpretation,” which means that you shouldn’t be surprised to hear screaming guitars during the Hallelujah Chorus.
Here’s Sindel’s description:
“The Excerpts opens with the “Overture” which has amazing counterpoint and polyphony and a grand sense of reverence. The second part of “Excerpts” is an air entitled “He Shall Feed His Flock Like a Shepard” which is typically sung by a female alto and I chose to emulate the female alto lines with a full bodied collection of clean and distorted guitar performances, this track in particular was the hardest track to mix as we set forth to create orchestral dynamics whilst still trying our best to have a sense of beauty and grace…
Lastly, is the world famous Hallejuah Chorus, which was a challenge to track and mix to say the least…
This track has at least 156 guitar tracks as I went about emulating a complete orchestral choir with a sonic wall of sound… “
Sindel has more adventurous interpretations at his site, including a symphonic guitar take on Pachelbel’s Canon (MP3).
