Podfather Questions Mainstream Coverage Of Odeo

Odeo LogoDave Winer, one of the inventors of podcasting, is questioning the mainstream media coverage of podcasting startup Odeo and its founder, Evan Williams.

Not work-safe…..

“I gotta hand it to Evan Williams,” writes Winer. “He gets a hand job from the NY Times when he starts an ill-conceived podcasting company with millions of VC dollars “We’re going to let people do what they do and well see what they do and hope they do it a lot.”, and after the company fails, another hand job from the Times.”

Williams recently announced that he had created a new startup and that it had purchased the assets of Odeo, a podcasting community.

“What are they so impressed with I sure don’t know,” adds Winer.

Hey, Dave Winer is NOT commonly known as the Podfather. Adam Curry is. Check your facts first before giving someone else a label.

  2. All I got from this brief article was insults – no real content. Unprofessional. If there is a real problem with Odeo, I’d surely like to know about it – I have a voice-mail box on Odeo for my LightOnLightThrough.com podcast – but all I see in this article are smears, no real information.

Both Dave Winer and Adam Curry are considered by many to be podfathers. Winer created the standards that podcasting are based upon; Curry created the first podcast client and helped popularize the concept.

Curry, though, has promoted himself with the term, been caught revising history at Wikipedia to promote his role in podcasting (https://www.podcasting-news.com/archives/2005/12/wikipedia_caugh_1.html) and presented himself with messianic podfather imagery.

If you want to buy into that – ok – they are jointly the podfathers to those that have been involved in this since the beginning.
