YouTube Purges Over 30,000 Videos; More To Come
Oct 30th, 2006 | By James Lewin | Category: Corporate Podcasts, Digital Video Downloads, Making Money with Podcasts, Podcasting Law, Streaming Video, VlogsOne more sign that YouTube as you know it is dead: the site has quietly purged over 30,000 videos after receiving complaints of copyright infringement.
According to a report in the New York Times, nearly 30,000 clips of TV shows, movies and music videos were taken down after the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers cited copyright infringement.
Now the site is removing hundreds of clips from Comedy Central, including clips from “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart,” “The Colbert Report” and “South Park.”
The company, recently acquired by Google, plans to remove infringing content and replace it with ad-supported content from the major music labels and mainstream television and film studios.
