City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Intros Classical Podcast

The free 30-minute monthly podcast, hosted by music broadcaster Tommy Pearson, includes the latest CBSO news, interviews and discussions with musicians and conductors as well as music clips.
The first episode (MP3) features Music Director Sakari Oramo looking back over his time with the Orchestra and forward to the highlights of the coming year; a look at the new season’s concerts with CBSO chief executive, Stephen Maddock; a behind the scenes at the CBSO’s double bass section; and an introduction to Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 8;
“Podcasting offers a direct personal route to classical music fans and novices alike and I’m delighted that the CBSO is once again pioneering a new approach to broadening our audience,” said Maddock.
Each month, Pearson will be joined by special guests and will introduce regular discussions and features including:
- The PodGuide to the Orchestra featuring the different sections of the Orchestra, the instruments and their players.
- The Podcast Panel. Two members of a CBSO concert audience review a recording, broadcast or live performance.
- Stephen Johnson the critic and broadcaster is our resident ‘talking programme note’ offering insights into the major works performed by the CBSO this season.
- The Star Interview. Tommy talks to the major international names performing with the CBSO.
- The Competition: each month there’s a chance to win tickets to a CBSO concert at Symphony Hall.
