CNN, AOL Following YouTube Lead
Jul 31st, 2006 | By James Lewin | Category: Streaming Video, Video, VlogsAOL and CNN have announced new services that take the lead from YouTube and other Internet video sites, letting users post their own content to the sites.
AOL is revamping its video site in an attempt to match popular do-it-yourself Web services like YouTube, while also improving its video-search tool and offering more programming as it tries to win loyal viewers.
“In the past year we’ve seen video has exploded on the Web,” said Josh Freeman, vice president of AOL Video. “We’re trying to integrate all elements,” instead of specializing in user-generated video or movie trailers, or having a video store. AOL’s goal is to get viewers to think about tuning into Internet videos the way they turn on their television, he said.
CNN is introducing CNN Exchange, an area of the company’s Web site that will feature user-submitted video, audio and articles.
“User-generated content has the potential to play a pivotal role in journalism whether it’s online or offline,” Mitch Gelman, senior vice president and executive producer for CNN.com, said in a statement. “With CNN Exchange, we’ve essentially created a one-stop shop for CNN.com users to share their contributions with other Internet users.”
One look at an Alexa graph of YouTube’s traffic explains the sudden rush to add support for user videos:
This is regarding Mr. Mike Ahlers CNN article about a Muslim family being ejected off an airline plane. In his article Mr. Ahlers report was very one sided, as most of CNN reporters tend to be, writing for the Muslim family instead of a balanced report. He did not get any of the FBI’s statements and only covered what the airline was stating is this particular case. He did not even note that in this age of Islamic Facisim that every Muslim has been tainted with suspicion due to their dress and religion. Where is any interview, without names, of passengers that did fell afraid of this type of talk from Muslims? Where is the view of the passengers? This is not a case of Civil Rights abusement just what the Islamic Terrorists have done to their own religion not what the USA is doing to Muslims.
Fair and Balanced would be a nice angle for CNN!
