Avenue A RazorfishCompany intranets need to add blogging and podcasting or else become irrelevant, according to a new report from Avenue A | Razorfish, an interactive marketing and technology services firm.”Employees today are expecting, and increasingly demanding, the same compelling web site experiences at work that they receive in their personal time,” said Shiv Singh, national director of the Enterprise Solutions group of Avenue A | Razorfish. Singh advises, “Adopt ideas liberally and often from the consumer world.”

According to the new Corporate Intranets Best Practices Report: A User-Driven Web 2.0 Perspective, five consumer web ideas worth considering for employee use are auctions, podcasting, social search, audience rankings and blogging.”We all love our MP3 players,” notes the report. “And now there’s an opportunity to use podcasting in the enterprise. Podcasting can be used for audio white papers, meeting recaps, product demos and virtual conferences. Your employees will be able to catch up on their work while commuting to the office (or exercising). They’ll love it.”

Singh warned business leaders and intranet managers, “Even if you do nothing to help your intranet mature, outside forces like blogs, wikis that everyone can edit, and Real Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds are going to force you to confront change.”
