A new version of aTV Flash, a $49.95 software upgrade to enhance the functionality of your Apple TV, has been released that’s compatible with the version 2.1 of Apple TV firmware.
aTV Flash adds support for more video formats, USB external hard drives & web browsing.

- Play DVD files WITHOUT converting them (includes DVD menu support)
- Surf the web with a Safari based web browser
- Easily enable external USB hard drive storage

- View local weather forecasts
- All original Apple TV features remain intact
aTV Flash looks like it adds great new features – but there’s no guarantee that they won’t break with Apple’s next software update.

The hours that I have saved by not having to transcode video to stick it on the Apple TV thanks to this product are countless.
If only Apple would unlock the Apple TV like the iPhone, developers could bring functionality to the unit like this without having to break it every time.
They added YouTube but what about all the other sources, some of them offering HD content that could be added to make the Apple TV a killer device with a host of killer apps.
The Apple TV could so easily be the device of choice for the home like the iPod was for the listener on the go but Apple is holding it back.
As for this product, well it does so much, does it so well and does it so easily. There are three or four steps that anyone could follow, you plug in a data key, reboot, remove the datakey, reboot, thats about it and it just works. More stable than mobileme (bitchy! LOL)
This looks like it can solve a pile of issues….the support for Flip4Mac, Perian, etc., is a major advantage.
I agree…iPod in every pocket, Apple TV in every home.
