German Chancellor Angela Merkel has introduced a video podcast, Angela Merkel – die Kanzlerin direkt (the Chancellor direct).The podcast, in German, will feature Merkel’s thoughts on political topics and current events. The first video podcast discusses the World Cup, which runs in Munich through July 9th.
Merkel is a very popular figure in Germany. In early 2006, polls showed that she, had the highest approval rate among Germans ever recorded for a chancellor since 1949.Economic analysts have referred to the ‘Merkel factor’, which has is thought to have caused a rapid rise in consumer confidence and market spending.
